We have universities, foundations and industries that make us experts in the field. With knowledge and strong entrepreneurs, we are a large network.
The wood industries are where the raw material and knowledge are. There are rational sawmills, planing mills, component manufacturers, house manufacturers and carpentry shops.
The wood industry can be found in all 15 municipalities
Today, the county's 110 wood industry companies employ 2,500 people and are located in all 15 municipalities of Västerbotten. 80% of the companies have less than 25 employees and 90% of the companies are located in rural areas.
The industry is an employment industry with many SME companies that have a total of more employees compared to ex. mining and metal industry. In total, the wood industry has a turnover of SEK 8.8 billion.
One of Sweden's largest forest counties
Half of Västerbotten's surface is productive forest land. Development is constantly moving towards increased further processing of the raw material, and the function, design and feel of the products are increasingly focused. Another development is the investment in new, international markets and the green transition.
Sustainability development & societal transformation
Increased demands on sustainability and circular flows place ever higher demands on the wood industry. With a strong focus on resource optimization and increased use of locally produced bio-based materials, we can both keep raw materials, production, competence and jobs in Västerbotten. The industry contributes to reducing the climate footprint and societal transformation.

20 years of collaboration and development
Träbransch Norr is a jointly owned business that has existed for almost 20 years. Our owners are Västerbotten's wood companies, where TBN receives the important task from the companies to drive industry development via projects and activities that move the wood industry in the county forward. We do this by supporting development and working together to create important benefits for our region's wood industry.
